Different Types of Breathing in Demon Slayer PART 2

Different Types of Breathing in Demon Slayer PART 2

The new Demon Slayer movie: Mugen Train releasing soon to the western world, let's recap the different styles of breathing introduced to us in the first season of the anime.

💮Flower Style Breathing💮

Originating from Water style, Flower Style breathing involves mimicing flowers and fruits with techniques that enhanced the users agility and flexibility.

There are only two known users from the manga, Kanae Kocho and Kanao Tsuyuri

Kanae was the only user that was able to use this style of breathing to reach the rank of Hashira. Unfortunately, as explained in the anime, she died after encountering the Upper Rank 2 of the Twelve Kizuki of Muzan, Doma!

Here are five forms of Flower Style Breathing:

  1. Honourable Shadow Plum
  2. Crimson Hanagoromo
  3. Peonies of Futility
  4. Whirling Peach
  5. Equinoctial Vermilion Eye

The last form is the most infamous and strongest form of Flower Style Breathing but it may come at the cost of the user's eye sight as it enhances kinetic vision to the user's max!

🦋Insect Style Breathing🦋

Originating from Flower Style Breathing, Insect Style breathing is a technqiue that replicates the movements and stings of several insects.

With only one user adopting and founding this style of breathing, it is a unique fighting strategy against demons. This is because of the signficance it has on grazing, stabbing and thrusting the target instead of beheading them for immediate exorcism.

The reason for this lies with the user's inability to cut the head of demons due to a lack of strength. Shinobu Kocho found an alternative method where Wisteria poisons are inserted with each thrust or graze upon the target, immobilising and slowly killing them. To further enhance this technique, Shinobu donned a unique needle-style of katana which supports her sting fighting style.

Here are the four techniques used:

  1. Butterfly Dance: Caprice
  2. Dance of the Bee Sting: True Flutter
  3. Dance of the Dragonfly: Compound Eye Hexagon
  4. Dance of the Centipede: Hundred-Legged Zigzag

The last two dances are so strong that it gave her the title of Hashira and could stand up to the Upper Levels of the Twelve Kizuki!

❤️Love Style Breathing❤️

The last breathing style we'll cover in this blog will be Love Style breathing. Used by the Love Hashira, Mitsuri Kanroji, this style involves whip-like attacks to deliver fast and powerful blows that empower the user's physical strength, despite not being very bulky.

This is the personal creation of Mitsuri  and originated from Flame style breathing which also has the same ideology of single, powerful blows.

Here are the techniques:

  1. First Form: Shivers of First Love
  2. Second Form: Love Pangs
  3. Third Form: Catlove Shower
  4. Fifth Form: Swaying Love - Wildclaw
  5. Sixth Form: Cat-Legged Winds of Love

This style does require a special katana and in Mitsuri''s case, she has a whip-like katana, the Nichirin Blade. This allows her to use her techniques with a speed that makes her one of the fastest demon slayers and hashira in the current Demon Slayer world!
